Self Defense Weapons: Defeating The “Club Shove”
In self-defense, weapons can make a big difference.
But what happens when you’re not the one with the self defense weapon?
What happens when your opponent has, say, a club, a bat, or a tire iron, and he holds his “self defense” weapon in both hands to push you off as if he were some sort of riot cop?
At best, you may take a few inconsequential blows, but the club in front of your opponent serves like the bumper of a car, moving you back without hurting him.
It also forms a barrier through which you can’t fight, and that’s why he’s using it.
If you’re not careful, you could take a brutal blow to the face from the length of the club.
There IS something you can do, however…
You Can Pull A Weapons Reversal!
With a self defense weapon reversal, the odds turn in your favor because the weapon is in YOUR hands. Follow these steps:
Self Defense Weapon Reversal, Step One:
As he comes forward with the club held before him, go over or under with one of your arms, diving down between his body and the club.
Self Defense Weapon Reversal, Step Two:
Swing your arm up in a circular motion in front of your body (so if you use your right arm, it would circle in a clockwise direction) and come under his arm anywhere between his wrist and elbow to get the right leverage.
Self Defense Weapon Reversal, Step Three:
As you continue this motion, the leverage will be so great that he HAS to let go.
At this point, you can strip that bat right out of his hands.
Once you do, not only is he off balance, but you will notice that the club should actually end up smack in your own hand!
You might have been tempted to think that a self-defense weapon held before the body isn’t much of a threat, but as we’ve just seen, it certainly can be.
An impact weapon does not have to be swung in order to hurt you.
Self-defense for your opponent is assault for you, because he wants to go home unhurt just like you do.
The difference is that he doesn’t mind hurting you to get what he wants.
A self-defense weapon is a force multiplier… but you want to make sure YOU are the one doing the multiplying.

Shalom; as a retired correctional officer, I loved the video, I would like to know if there is an instructor in the el paso area that can help me learn more. thanks and God bless…
If your opponent lets go with one hand early, what stops him from swinging the club into your head with the other? (Or even just letting go, moving his hand around yours, and grabbing the club again?)
Seth, no attack will work if done at a slow speed. His demonstration was done slowly and WITHOUT a distract/attack. While inserting one arm between the attacker’s arms, use your other hand to attack the attacker, ie. eye jab, throat punch, palm heel, etc. Put the attacker on the defense, he will forget about the club when your fingers are in his eyes. Speed and violence of action!
Attacking his eyes with your other hand could be very awkward, but something like that would work against an untrained club-wielder. If he trained to defend by using the club to strike (rather than push) in the event of any attempted counter, I still don’t see how this would work.
That’s because the technique isn’t designed to be used against a strike, so you’re right, it won’t work if used against a different attack. Against this one, though, it looks very effective.
Thanks all for carrying on the conversation!
It’s important to keep in mind that these are all just “possible” responses as specific self defense techniques. We could “but what if…” these techniques to death, right?
Great questions, feedback, and comments!
Keep up the great work y’all!

They guy with bat/stick is COMMITTED to keeping your away – he’s probably not playing around with a weak grip. Notice that when the technique is executed, the holder of the bat is off balanced forward. The helps keep him committed as he is now partially relying on you to hold him up.
If you place your weight onto the stick before/as you feed your hand through, then the attacker is going to increase his commitment by grasping the stick more forcefully, stiffening his arms, and lowering his center of gravity. This will not help him in this technique – although it may require more effort to execute the technique, when the release comes, it’s going to be explosive!
Greetings, this is a very simple but effective take-away technique. The key is to be focused and move in one motion, when you attack!! Keep sending us these simple techniques!! Thanks!
Great advise Jeff, Thanks!
That is a easy and effective techneque if they are pushing with a bat but if they are swing the bat that is another story!
When the attacker swings the bat past you step in with a knee to the groin & a forword elbow strike to the jaw.
Very nice!
Just hope the bad guys are not watching these videoes too!!!
Thanks for the great self defense tips.
Looks good but having seen over 1000 confrontations any time a baseball bat is used or similar it is used in the normal two handed position which is difficult to deal with and the threat alone would usually keep people at bay.
If you need to deal with it you have to get inside the arc of swing which makes it useless because you can’t swing a bat as someone who is right in your face.

It’s a nice technique, but with pretty limited application, aimed at a very specific action and limited objective on the part of the opponent: “pushing you away with the stick”. If he suddenly decides he doesn’t just want to push you back, but instead wants to crush your windpipe with it, you’re fairly screwed.
Yes D…it IS for a very specific application to a very specific attack. As are nearly all of the videos you’ll find here. There’s no way to post a self defense video that applies to all street fight scenarios.
Take each technique and consider them yet one more tool to add to your self defense toolbelt.
As for your specific “what if” scenario, I don’t like to take the stance of “you’re screwed”. You just have to attach differently. A high thrust of the bat gives you ample room to duck under and strike under his thrust (both arms will be forward and he’ll be off balance).
But again, there are multiple self defense techniques for any given situation and nothing happens in a vacuum. Use what you can when you can.
Thanks for commenting!
Thank you. Nice:-) + Become an animal (be ferocious while attacking anybody), may help.
I think when someone is coming at me with a bat, I would definitely take out his eye with a thumb jab or stick my fingers so far in his throat that he would automatically drop his bat from the excruciating pain I just dealt him. With both hands on the bat, he is giving you lots of target of oppotunities to drop him. Distance and timing is most essential in this scenario, in my opinion.
I enjoyed the free DVD and the short clips it is direct, to the point and simple to use. Looking forward to see more clips and the other six DVDs

Jeff,
Your stuff is extremely practical. Like it alot! Wish I either still lived in Chicago or there was something like this around the DC area, which is where I live now.
Brandon
Jeff, I am glad you are showing these simple movements, which happen to be very effective.Their are always different scenarios in which we, or our opponents react differently.Things change so fast in confrontations, that we have to always adjust. This is essential for survival.Adjusting and readjusting. Thank you for your dedication.
A very effective technique, once again great info Jeff!
