While the video in question is quite exciting and dramatic, there are a few facts that most people outside of Africa or the scientific community may be unaware of.
Firstly, the Cape Buffalo, which is the "prey" animal shown in the video is considered one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. Lions are regularly killed attempting to bring them down. That is why the lions went for the calf, and not one of the adults. As you could see, one adult buffalo easily threw an adult lion ten feet into the air. Even professional hunters consider the Cape Buffalo one of the hardest animals to bring down.
Secondly, it took quite a long time for the buffalo to rescue the calf, and I think it was only because they realized it was not a lost cause at that point.
Lastly, there is no such thing as a "timid woodland creature", no matter how cute they may be, or which side we're on. There is another interesting video on youtube which shows a very aggressive rabbit chasing a snake all the way across a yard, at which point the snake actually climbs a tree just to get away from the bunny. Or the one where the numbnuts hunter gets his ass kicked by a deer after dousing himself in deer piss. No animals survive in the wild without having a strong survival instinct.
In my opinion, the ability of predators like cats to bring down huge, aggressive beasts like buffalo are as much a function of their intelligence as their aggressiveness, ruthlessness or "thuggery". And I agree with Robert at no.10, we should take care not to anthropomorphize, that is ascribe human emotions to wild animals.
