If you find yourself locked up and want to one day be released DO NOT EVER under any circumstances join a gang for any reason whatsoever. When you join a gang you become a soldier. This means you MUST follow orders. The order can be anything from "clock that guy" to "fuck with staff" to "kill him tomorrow". If you don't want to be punished then you follow orders. The more you follow orders and succeed the more valuable you are to the gang because you help the gangs in house rep because now you are a badass. Now several things are going to happen. If a rival, from your gang or another, wants your spot or wants to hurt your click you're dead, or at least have new holes. If you are short then you will be ordered to commit a violent act or hold drugs that will get you charged so you can stay an asset to your boys. RULE friggin 1: gangs in prison are NOT for your protection. They exist so YOU can protect the shot callers and the bigs. They are NOT a way to survive prison. They are your way of life. And since they only exist in prison...guess what...now so do you.

sorry, it messed up and accidentally posted too soon!

If you do go to prison, keep a "leave me alone" attitude but be prepared to back it up violently. I have been told that after you fight a couple of times you won't be bothered as much, because you have shown that you won't tolerate it.

Oh yeah, and Rule#2 - whatever you see going on, stay out of it!

Good luck to any who need this!

Hello!
I stumbled upon this website by accident, actually--but I read it with interest.

My father was an ex con from back in the day when Georgia had chain gangs. I still have his prison record: he managed to escape several times, but they kept catching him and sending him back!

Sometimes he would talk about his time in prison. He said that it was always best if you could win a fight with attitude instead of fists, but to be prepared to more than back up your words and attitude.

He also said to NEVER back down from ANY type of fight or harassment, because if they thought they had you bullied, they would torment you and possibly kill you. He told me the story of how him and a cell mate "handled" a pair who tried to bully them--it wasn't pleasant, and no, it wasn't sexual, either!
